Reserve Officer Unit
The Marina Police Department Reserve Program staffs a core of dedicated volunteers that have received training and certification by the California Commision on Peace Officer Standards and Training. They have attended either the full Basic Police Academy or a Reserve Police Officer Academy to obtain their certification. They are either Level II Reserves that ride with other full-time officers, or Level I Reserves that are allowed to patrol the streets as a solo beat officer. The department currently has two Reserve Officers and is currently looking at expanding the unit with additional Level I Reserve Officers.
Reserve Officers volunteer a minimum of 24 hours per month, but many of them spend much more time than that working to keep the streets of Marina safe. Additionally, they attend monthly Reserve Officer training sessions, qualify quarterly with their duty weapons and attend other departmental trainings in order to keep their skills sharp. They are hired on to supplement the paid staff of police officers in the Patrol Division and also form a pool of viable candidates for future hiring of full-time paid police officers.
